Barrett Centre for Crisis Support: Barrett Centre for Crisis Support provides a safe environment in the community for individuals who are experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crisis and who do not require a hospital stay. We serve all genders, 16 years of age or older. Our confidential and free services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 24-Hour Crisis Line numbers are provided below.

Canada Suicide Prevention Services: The Canada Suicide Prevention Service (CSPS) is a national, dedicated crisis and suicide phone and text service.  Live Phone and Text is a safe, confidential, one-on-one conversation with a highly-trained empathic responder. Our responders are available to support you regarding all issues related to crisis and/or suicidal thoughts. We are here to help! Our service is confidential and the name you offer can be an alias.

Distress Centres of Greater Toronto: Our 408-HELP (4357) line provides telephone support to individuals in the community who are at risk and their most vulnerable. Highly-trained volunteer responders (with the support of professional staff) connect with callers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Our team provides callers with emotional support and crisis intervention when they are socially isolated, marginalized, struggling with chronic mental health problems, in distress, attempting to navigate family violence or in need of emergency response or suicide prevention + intervention + postvention.

Durham Crisis and Mental Health Line: Durham Mental Health Services offers a range of crisis support to assist individuals who are experiencing a personal or situational crisis. Our crisis services are free and confidential. This includes telephone and subsequent followup support, short-term Crisis Beds, and Mental Health Safe Beds.

Gerstein Centre: 24-hour community-based crisis services for adults 16+ in the City of Toronto who are dealing with mental health, concurrent, or substance use issues and are currently in crisis. Telephone crisis line, mobile crisis team, community-based crisis beds, short term follow-up support, and referrals to other beneficial health and social services are available. Services are free, confidential, and either complement or provide an alternative to medically-based services.

Good2Talk: Good2Talk is a free, confidential service for post-secondary students in Ontario, available 24/7/365. Post-secondary students in Ontario can receive professional counselling and information and referrals for mental health, addictions and well-being.

Crisis Text Line powered by Kids Help Phone is a free, confidential texting service, available 24/7/365. By texting GOOD2TALKON to 686868, post-secondary students in Ontario can be connected to a trained volunteer Crisis Responder who is there to listen and support students with any issue they’re facing.

Kids Help Phone: We’re Canada’s only toll-free, 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous phone counselling, web counselling and referral service for children and youth. Every day, professional counsellors provide support to young people across the country. The service is completely anonymous and confidential – we don’t trace calls, we don’t have call display. You don’t even have to tell us your name if you don’t want to.

LGBTQ2a+ Resources


CAMH Rainbow Services: Counselling provided to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit and intersex people concerned about their drug and alcohol use. Individuals who are over the age of 18 can access service directly. No referral is required.

Trans Lifeline: Trans Lifeline is a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community.

Assaulted Women’s Helpline: The Assaulted Women’s Helpline offers a 24-hour telephone and TTY crisis line to all women who have experienced abuse. We provide counselling, emotional support, information and referrals.

Talk4Healing: A culturally grounded, fully confidential helpline for Indigenous women available in 14 languages all across Ontario. Started in 2012 by Beendigen in partnership with the Ontario Native Women’s Association, Talk4Healing has provided over 20,000 Indigenous women and their families with real-world solutions, without judgment, in a safe and accepting environment.

Our services are fully grounded in Indigenous culture, wisdom and tradition and are available in the following languages: Oji-Cree, Cree, Algonquin, Inuktitut, Mohawk, Oneida, Odawa, Potawatomi, Micmac, Black Foot, Anishinaabe, Moose Cree, Swampy Cree, English
